Abstract Art

Abstract Art

The third graders did a great job on their abstract chalk pastel art.  We started with black glue and the kids were able to put lines on their paper in any direction.  They were able to use either curvy or straight lines.  After the glue dried they colored in each shape with chalk pastel, mixing analogous colors or values in shapes that were big enough to accommodate two colors.

I wish I had more pictures of this project!  My second graders did these adorable clay birds that hang from the wall.  They turned out SO cute!  They impressed texture onto the birds and cut out each of the individual parts (head, body, wing, beak) from one single slab.  They then attached them to create a bird.  After they glazed them we added “feathers” with cute and colorful string.
